It too a long time. It was slipping away little by little. It took, probably, the better part of a decade. Ten years to degrade to the point where it demanded my attention. I’m talking about my hearing. It went from excellent to the point where everyone around me sounded like their mouths were stuffed with cotton. It took around ten years to begin to understand that the problem was all mine and that I couldn’t blame others for mumbling or talking too softly.
